Mono Giraud Crafts Ethereal Designs with Organic Materials

Some designers are doing such a great job overlapping between the world of fashion and art that you have to wonder if their creations are even real. Mono Giraud falls under this category and their creations have an ethereal quality that makes them seem like they originate from another realm.

This brand was founded in 2018 by the Argentinian artist and designer Alejandra Giraud, based in Buenos Aires’ colorful neighborhood of Palermo. Despite the photographs that give her designs an out of this world feel, Giraud’s designs are actually incredibly simple as she’s always using neutral and organic fabrics.

Locally sourced organic woods, natural fibers, and bamboo are the most common materials used in her creations, but she also works with silk thread from Indonesia woven on-site. Even after being knitted and processed by the artisans at her shop, they still manage to maintain the integrity of the original materials they’re made of.

Giraud told Colossal that she’s interested in “the conjunction of energy between objects and people” and this really shows in the photographs of her clothes. They truly present her designs in the best possible light, as the neutral background perfectly fits the color of her creations and all the other objects she uses as props in her shots.

AdrianMartinus Design is Creating Quirky and Colorful Low-Waste Furniture

If you can’t resist unique and quirky furniture pieces, you have to check out the amazing creations of AdrianMartinus Design. This tiny studio is giving a new life to hardwood flooring and broken skateboards by transforming them into amazing low-waste furniture.

When starting their design studio in 2012, brothers Adrian and Martinus Pool had one main goal in mind—give new life to all the construction material waste they encountered on worksites that left them frustrated and concerned for the environment.

Their journey started at their parent’s garage, where they mostly worked with broken skateboards they received as a donation from local skate shops. As their business grew, the Pool brothers started using new materials and upgraded their tools and machinery, but they’re still fully committed to carefully repurposing wood in an attempt to craft unique products with little waste.

Their products are available on their official website and Etsy store, where they were selected as the grand prize winner of this year’s Etsy Design Awards. They mostly specialize in making furniture, including tables, benches, and credenzas, but they also produce a wide range of smaller decorative pieces, often in collaboration with Danish artist Anne Tranholm.

It takes some time to develop your own style as a tattoo artist, but Ayhan Karadag is doing a great job paving his own path. He specializes in unique and minimal colored style-tattoos that look straight out of the pages of your favorite children’s book.

With almost 120,000 Instagram followers and counting, Karadag is truly a master of his craft. He started his artistic journey at 11 and experimented with different art forms over the years, before realizing that human skin is the most valuable material there is.

While discussing his craft with Bored Panda, the Turkish tattoo artist explained that he enjoys this art form because tattoos allow people to carry the fairytale designs from their imagination to their bodies for their entire life. His designs are often inspired by “fairytale stories which happen in our dreams, intertwined with nature and animals.”

Due to their whimsical, dreamy designs, many of Karadag’s have a childlike vibe, but not all of them are reminiscent of cartoon characters. This tattoo artist also draws inspiration from famous works of art, literature, and popular culture, and his versatility knows no bounds.

Thomas usually posts back to back photos of her shoe designs and dresses that inspired them and the resemblance is truly astounding. In addition to colors and patterns, she often makes tiny details, such as bows and embellishments, a part of her designs.

Whenever someone mentions the terms “green” and “ecological” architecture, Vincent Callebaut’s name is the first that comes to mind. He’s a true master of making eco-friendly buildings, which are good for the environment, in addition to looking amazing.

Callebaut is based in Belgium and he founded his own firm Vincent Callebaut Architectures shortly after graduating from the Institute Victor Horta. He spent the last two decades coming up with concepts for futuristic buildings that have the power to change the world.

One thing that all of Callebaut’s buildings have in common is the fact they were built with sustainability in mind. They’re built as urban forests, with plants to provide natural ventilation, and there are systems in place intended to reduce the carbon footprint of each building.

Callebaut is one of the architects responsible for embracing the concept of vertical farms through architecture and he made them an essential part of his buildings. We’re constantly in awe of his futuristic designs, but the best thing about them is that they’re promoting the idea of a more sustainable and eco-friendly world and proving it can look truly amazing.

This pottery expert from the Netherlands is the mastermind behind the ceramics shop The Pottery Parade. She enjoys making all sorts of ceramics pieces, ranging from plates to ornaments, but Weirdo Bud Vases is definitely her signature product.

Each of the vases in this collection has a couple of common traits. They all have thin, lengthy bodies, fun facial expressions, and each one is covered with interesting prints, ranging from polka dots and flowers to leaves and other nature-inspired motifs.

Clothes with fun prints can be found at pretty much any store, but the ones created by Samantha Pleet are unlike anything you’ve seen before. This fashion designer from New York is taking retro style to a new level with her colorful, quirky prints.

Pleet describes herself as a “designer of magical clothing” and her eponymous fashion brand has been around since 2007. According to her official website, her clothes are inspired by “stories of magical women who do not want to grow up in the traditional world.”

Pleet grew up in Philadelphia, surrounded by a forest, and her love for nature is pretty obvious in her work. Her signature prints aren’t just fun and quirky—they’re often nature-inspired, and feature flowers, fruits, and seashells, but most of them are more reminiscent of paintings displayed at the museum than clothes you can find at fast fashion stores.

Pleet is fully committed to creating ethically made clothes and that’s why she’s producing them in small batches at a tiny fair trade factory in India. She loves using natural and organic fabric to bring her designs to life and enjoys experimenting with different embroidery and printing techniques to make them perfect.
