Deanna Steinborn is the Queen of Ethereal Ceramics Art

Most people don’t give pottery much thought and pick up the first coffee mug or cereal bowl they find cute, but some of them deserve our full attention. That’s the case with Deanna Steinborn’s ceramics creations, which will win you over with their whimsical vibes.

Steinborn is the mastermind behind Hand to Earth Ceramics, which she describes as “a clay love letter to the magic and beauty of the natural world”. She fell in love with this art form while attending a ceramics course at college in 2011, and never looked back.

For Steinborn, ceramics represents magic, nature, art, and the beauty hidden inside small, quiet moments. Her connection to natural elements is pretty obvious from her work since many of her creations feature butterflies, moths, bees, and other insects, but they’re represented in a colorful and whimsical way that shows them in a whole new light.

That’s exactly the beauty of Steinborn’s work—she finds magical qualities in the world around her and channels it through her ceramic pieces. In addition to looking amazing, her cups, bowls, and planters are fully functional and she’s making them all from her tiny home studio.

Nike Designer Jasmine Plantin’s Hand-Dyed Shirts are an Ode to the Ocean

This has been the year of tie-dye and when we think of tie-dye we usually think of bursts of bright colors. Nike designer and owner of Ampwata, Jasmine Plantin’s hand-dyed shirts have a deeper meaning—they’re inspired by the ocean.

Each shirt is one of a kind with the line’s logo, wata, stiched on it and adorned with the words of Haitian poet René Depestre on the inside-bottom seam, “By the strength of my wind you will emerge from yourself.” While some of these shirts may look similar, the designer never repeats a colorway as she views each batch of tees as a new chapter in a story.

The shirts are released weekly in batches of three to six with the next release scheduled for December 7. Each release comes with a new set of stories related to the ocean. The theme of the ocean relates back to Plantin’s childhood as her mom was from New Orleans and her dad is from Jacmel, a beach town in Haiti. “I kept seeing this element of water that was very present. So that was always the core [of Ampwata], and I think I’ll always come back to that in some way,” she told Vogue.

While the brand is still small, she hopes to show consumers a more eco-friendly way of shopping as the base garments she uses are 100% recycled and her upcoming collection repurposes vintage souvenir tees from tropical countries.

Many architects used nature as their driving force, but only a few managed to come as close to integrating it in their work as Javier Senosiain. This Mexican architect is a true master of organic architecture and his designs often take the form of animals, plants, and other natural objects that we can see at every turn.

After graduating from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Senosiain stuck around as a professor of architecture, while developing his career and personal style as an architect. Even before pursuing architecture, he drew inspiration from simple things that looked like true wonders in his eyes.

Senosiain’s designs are largely inspired by man’s relationship with nature. That’s why he often builds grass-covered, cave-like structures, either shaped like animals or inspired by their natural habitat. Many of his buildings feature colorful tiles that he uses to pay homage to his cultural heritage.

Senosiain prides himself in creating organic architecture, ranging from office buildings and residential homes to industrial buildings and tourist sites. His designs promote harmony between the human habitat and the natural world, and this perfect balance is the best thing about them.

Lazy Oaf Will Rock Your World with Bold and Silly Prints

Clothes with daring prints are never going out of style and some brands are doing a better job embracing them than others. Lazy Oaf is one of the fashion world’s leaders when it comes to bold and silly prints that look nostalgic and modern at the same time.

This London-based fashion brand was founded by illustrator and designer Gemma Shiel after her college graduation in 2001. She started her creative journey by hand printing t-shirts at her garage, before expanding her business and transforming Lazy Oaf into one of the most original streetwear brands.

According to the description on Lazy Oaf’s official website, their designs are inspired by “youth nostalgia, teenage rebellion and a sense of apathy towards conforming to the norm.” In addition to creating clothes with silly prints, Lazy Oaf is known for collaborating with the world’s leading pop culture brands, such as DC Comics and Dreamworks.

Over the course of the past two decades, their amazing pieces with graphic prints went on to cover numerous categories of womenswear, menswear, and accessory. From ugly sweaters and poster dresses to funny socks and signature bags, Lazy Oaf has everything you need to stand out in the crowd.

Succulent trees may be trendier than ever, but that doesn’t mean people haven’t been making them before this year rolled around. They’ve actually been around for years and you can find a bunch of tutorials on YouTube that will teach you how to make your own.

Our personal favorite was shared by the YouTube channel eHow and it will walk you through the process of making a succulent Christmas tree in under a minute. All you need are some floral greening pins, sphagnum moss, succulent cuttings, a pot with stones, and chicken wire.

To avoid getting hurt, put on some gloves and use pliers to form a cone with chicken wire, before filling it with the moist moss. Once that’s done, place the cone inside the pot, decorate it with succulent stems, use greening pins to secure them, and your succulent Christmas tree is good to go!

Fans of gardening are constantly looking for adorable pots for their plants, but they’re usually shaped the same way. Kimberley Williamson managed to find a way to put a twist on your regular planters with her viral BirKim Bags.

The name of her brand makes it clear that her plant pots are shaped like bags, but how did she come up with this idea? On her official website, Williamson explains that she wanted to create “something fun, occasionally offensive and different” with a block of leftover clay at 3 a.m.—and the rest is history.

Her designs are inspired by the shape and style of plastic bags and she also wanted them to address the issue of single-use consumption. Unlike the item that inspired them, BirKim Bags aren’t meant to be discarded and they’ll bring nothing but good vibes into your home.

Some of Williamson’s designs come in bright colors and fun print, but she usually enjoys playing around with funny one-liners. The majority of her bag pots feature cheeky messages that will put a smile on your face every time you look at them and that’s one more reason to love them.

Reza Mohtashami’s Black Villa is Instagram’s Latest Architectural Sensation

If you’re a huge fan of modern architecture with a futuristic feel, chances are you’ll already familiar with Reza Mohtashami. He earned a lot of attention with his contemporary designs and his latest building to become an Instagram sensation is the sleek black villa in New York.

Situated in the very heart of the Harriman State Park, this stunning residential home seamlessly blends into its surroundings and not only thanks to its black shade. Its foliage-covered living roof adds to its cozy atmosphere in the middle of one of New York’s largest state parks.

Blackened concrete, ceiling glass windows, and magnificent poolside views add to the magic of this unusual home, but its exterior is just as impressive. The name black villa is really fitting because this color dominates each corner of this cabin in the woods—both inside and out.

The walls and furnishings all come in black, but Mohtashami made sure to create a contrast with light wood paneling, present in each room of the villa. It also comes in handy that there are huge windows throughout the house, bathing each corner with natural sunlight all year round.
