Mila Textiles is Crafting the Most Colorful Beaded Balaclavas That You’ll Ever See

High-end fashion designers put balaclavas back on the map in recent years and if you still haven’t fallen in love with them—now’s the time! Designer Mila Textiles is creating the most colorful balaclavas that you’ll ever come across and she’ll change the way you look at this fashion garment.

Balaclavas borrow their name from the Battle of Balaclava, which took place during the Crimean War in the mid-19th century. The British troops tried to fight the cold weather by wearing knitted headgear, leading to the emergence of balaclavas. That’s why this fashion garment is still associated with the military, but it’s been used everywhere from skiing to racing.

The London-based designer Kamila decided to breathe a new life into balaclavas and founded her own brand Mila Textiles shortly after graduating from the London College of Fashion in 2020. She has a degree in fashion textile embroidery and her handmade accessories are embroidered entirely by hand and feature a lot of beaded details.

Kamila says she specializes in “creating playful, abstract wearable art inspired by natural surroundings with a touch of surrealism.” The vibrant hues and textures of her balaclavas are often inspired by corals and marine life, and she uses beads and layers of thread to recreate their beautiful patterns.

Ariadna Giménez is Crafting Gaudi-Inspired Architecture Through the Power of AI

Antoni Gaudí went down in history as one of the biggest visionaries of Catalan architecture and designed some of the most show-stopping buildings in Spain. Designer Ariadna Giménez, the mastermind behind the creative project Gaudsm, is paying homage to his unique style through the power of AI.

Giménez is a multidisciplinary designer, who got her masters in advanced architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. Her area of expertise includes everything from photography to social media, but she’s especially fond of 3D visualization, interior design, and architecture.

Giménez caught our eye with her social media project Gaudism, which sees her using the power of artificial intelligence to craft brand-new buildings that look like Antoni Gaudí himself could’ve designed them.

Gaudí’s magnum opus is the Sagrada Família church in Barcelona, but he built many other iconic buildings in the Catalan capital, most notably Park Güell, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà.

According to Giménez, this project is “exploring aspects of Catalan Modernisme at different scales and translating it into a contemporary minimalist expression of natural forms.” She focuses on the curves, the dynamism, and the beyond-fairytale aspect or fantasy feel of Gaudi’s buildings while using the power of AI to bring them into the modern world.

5 Pinterest Home Decor Trends Worth Embracing in 2023

In just a few days, 2023 will finally be here—and so will many home décor trends that it’s bringing our way. Pinterest recently shared its own list of predictions for the new year and here are five home décor trends that made the cut.

“Hipstoric” Homes

The endless war between modern and maximalist home décor will finally come to an end in 2023. The rise of “hipstoric” homes will allow us to blend these two trends into one, by welcoming retro, hand-me-down items into our otherwise modern homes.

Dramatic Entrance

2023 will see your guests make a dramatic entrance into your home—all thanks to perfectly decorated porches, doorways, and gardens that look as amazing as your home’s interior.

Mushroom Craze

Mushroom décor has been around for a while, and it’s not going anywhere. Pinterest is putting funky mushroom art on the map, but you can embrace this craze with everything from lamps to pillows.

Rainscapes

Several eco-friendly trends from different walks of life made it to Pinterest’s list. Water saving will be especially popular thanks to the rise in popularity of rain barrels and drought-tolerant landscaping.

Elaborate Showers

If you’re in the mood to give your bathroom a total makeover this year, this is your sign from the universe to get it done. Elaborate showers are all the rage right now, with shower walk-ins and doorless showers experiencing a true boom on Pinterest.

This Cottagecore Brand Will Make You Fall in Love With “Little Women” All Over Again

Louisa May Alcott’s iconic novel Little Women has been inspiring artists for decades—and some of them just happen to work in the realm of fashion. That happens to be the case with the two sisters who founded a brand called Little Women Atelier, drawing inspiration from the March sisters’ adventures.

LWA was founded by sisters Luiza and Julia, who fell in love with hand-making things at a young age thanks to their mother and grandma. They sewed and knitted most of their clothes, from dresses to woolen cardigans, and they wanted to build a home filled with that same kind of domestic warmth once they became mothers themselves.

The duo eventually decided to launch their own brand, and their dresses are not just garments, but “a tradition passed from mother to daughter”, inspired by one of the most iconic American novels.

“Our source of inspiration is the lovely March sisters, from the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Together with them, we walked in the morning garden, bravely met the vicissitudes of fate, and shared simple happiness. Like the March sisters, we set to work together,” reads LWA’s official website.

Luiza and Julia pride themselves on making sustainable products informed by slow fashion practices. All of their cottagecore dresses are made with certified natural fabrics, primarily linen and wool.

We’ve reached that time of the year when you can’t enter a stationery store without stumbling upon countless amazing new planners. You’ll be tempted to buy one right away, but making your own is actually a match better option, and here’s how you can make it more personal.

Right Notebook

In addition to being much cheaper, regular notebooks leave you with more freedom. Since you have more options to choose from, it’s up to you to pick a notebook of the right size, with or without spirals, and decide if you want the paper to be lined, squared, or blank.

Perfect Schedule

The best thing about DIY planners is that it’s up to you to decide what they’re going to look like inside. If regular planners tend to be missing something you need or contain far too many things, DIY alternatives give you the freedom to organize the space any way you seem fit.

Have Fun

Most people making DIY planners aren’t doing it because they can’t find the one they like, but because it’s super-fun. This DIY adventure allows you to put a personal touch on an item you’ll be using all year long. You can get as creative as you want while making it, using everything from stickers to colorful pens to make your planner truly pop.

3 Ways to Make Your Holiday DIY Projects Less Time-Consuming

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, and it’s pretty difficult to set some time aside for your hobbies, including your DIY projects. If you’re planning to make some handmade gifts and decorations just in time for Christmas, these useful tips will help you make time for them.

Think Small

There’s nothing wrong with thinking big when it comes to your DIY projects, but it’s not an effective strategy when it comes to holiday DIY. You might realize you’ve bitten more than you can chew mid-way, so it’s better to stick to smaller and more achievable projects.

Right Materials

Looking for materials that you’re going to work with can be as time-consuming as the project itself. That’s why it’s always a good idea to work with materials and tools you already have at home. If that’s not an option, make a list of everything you need for your project(s) and try to buy it all at once.

Perfect Plan

If you wait to work on your DIY projects when you feel like it or when you have enough free time, chances are you won’t finish them before the holidays. That’s why it’s a better idea to schedule your DIY sessions in advance because it’s not that easy to find holes in your calendar during the busy holiday season.
