John Derian’s Halloween Collection is Delightfully Spooky

John Derian’s collaboration with Target is a gift that keeps on giving, and his latest collection hit the shelves at the perfect time. The quirky designers created a new, spooky line of Halloween home décor for this brand, and we’re in love with every single item!

According to Target’s official press release, Derian’s collection was “inspired by otherworldly objects and imagery” and he tried to bring “his unconventional, elevated aesthetic—and a decidedly spooky vibe” to his first line of Halloween oddities created specifically for Target.

Derian enjoyed collaborating with Target because their partnership allows him to share his passion for beautiful antique images with many different people. He did it once again with his Halloween collection, which he described as “funny-scary” because it encapsulates the magic and playfulness of this holiday.

Derian’s new Target collection features serving trays, glassware and towel sets, lanterns, and candle holders. It also comes with an impressive selection of throw pillows, including one shaped like a life-size stuffed skeleton. The entire collection features nearly 50 items, and they started selling at Target stores and online on October 10th.

Kenzo’s Paris Fashion Week Collection is an Ode to Beekeeping

Another Parish Fashion Week is behind us, and Kenzo gave us the buzziest new collection of the entire event. This luxury brand sent models dressed in beekeeping-inspired attire down the runway, which proved to be the perfect fit for the era of social distancing.

Kenzo’s designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista was partially inspired by the Oscar-nominated documentary Honeyland, about a beekeeper in rural Macedonia. This project explored several important themes, including climate change and exploitation of natural resources, and Baptista wanted to “express something about the fragility of the situation we are in” with Kenzo’s new collection.

When it comes to the designs, beyond their beekeeping theme, they feature bold colors and fun patterns this brand has always been known for. Lightweight coats and floral dresses were all over the runway, but wide-brimmed hats with netted veils stole the show.

What makes Kenzo’s show in Paris even more significant is the fact it took place just a few days before the passing of the brand’s founder Kenzo Takada. He stepped down as the brand’s creative director in 2000, but his successors stayed true to his bold vision for this brand. In the official statement announcing his passing, Kenzo representatives said that “his optimism, zest for life and generosity continue to be pillars” of their brand.

How to Use Fog and Mist to Your Advantage in Your Fall Photographs

Depending on how creative and experienced you are, fog and mist can be a total nightmare or a dream come true for fall photography. If you still haven’t mastered the art of taking photos when it’s misty outside, use these tips to your advantage.

Planning Your Shoot

Timing is crucial when it comes to planning your fog shoot, and you should check the forecast before heading out so you wouldn’t end up wasting your time. You should also put some effort into scouting a perfect location, and it comes in handy to get up high for an elevated vantage point.

Technical Aspects

One of the most important technical aspects of fall photography is exposure, and you should set it manually and experiment with your settings. It also comes in handy to have a defined subject in your shot that you’ll be focusing on because the contrast and color will often be quite low.

The Aura of Mystery

Fog and mist add mood and atmosphere to your photos, and that’s their strongest suit. Silhouetting is one of the most popular techniques because the objects in your photo will be reduced to mare outlines due to the lack of light and color, and you should use this to your advantage.

3 Secret Instagram Hacks to Step Up Your Social Media Game

In 2020, everyone’s trying to be an influencer, but what separates the people who build their following and those who can’t seem to get followers? We’re sure you’ve heard people say it’s all about being consistent, following a theme, and engaging with your audience, but there’s more to it than just that. Here are some tricks that influencers use, but don’t often reveal.

Hack 1: Get Extra Colors From the Color Section

Did you know that there are more colors than the ones offered by default in the color selection tools? To access more colors, open stories and tap the drawing pen icon. Then, click on one of the colors at the bottom and hold your finger. You’ll see a palette of gradient rich colors that you can choose between.

Hack 2: Add Hashtags to Stories and Make Them Invisible

The best way to increase your organic reach and to be discovered by new followers is to add hashtags to your Instagram stories. You can use up to 30 hashtags and you can make them invisible. Just open Stories and select the photo you want to share. Write your first hashtag and for your next hashtag, tap the pen icon and drag it to the photo until the hashtag is the same color as the background.

Hack 3: Share a Preview of Your Story

Build the excitement around your Story by sharing a sneak peek. All you have to do is open Stories and select a photo and tap the pen icon and select a color. Then click on your screen and hold for a few seconds until the Stories screen is filled with the color. Click the eraser icon in the top right corner and erase with your finger by swiping the screen. The photo underneath will appear where you’ve erased. Now just add a caption and share the post.

NeSpoon Spray Paints Lace Murals on Buildings Around the World

Polish street artist NeSpoon’s creativity knows no limits. After traveling the world, she leaves a sort of stamp every place she visits along the way. Her lace-patterned street art, which can be seen in Poland, Sicily, Finland, and France, is as unique as it is breathtaking.

Careful research goes into the designs of the lace patterns, which result in a mural than blends the existing architecture with the purpose of the buildings. Most of NeSpoon’s work has traditional laces made in clay or painted in walls and she describes her work as “somewhere in between street art, pottery, painting, sculpture, and jewellery.”

But it’s her most recent work that’s captured our attention—a mural for the French Museum of Fashion and Lace. This collaboration couldn’t be a better fit as the museum honors the lace-making traditions in the French city of Calais.

For the Calais project, the lace pattern she choose to spray paint was designed in 1894 and she came across it on one of the catalogs from the museum’s archives.

So why did she choose lace designs? “Why laces? Because in laces there is an aesthetic code, which is deeply embedded in every culture. In every lace we find symmetry, some kind of order and harmony, isn’t that what we all seek for instinctively?” reads the artist’s Behance profile.
