Matt Stevens is Reimagining His Favorite Movies as Retro Books

Graphic designers and illustrators often find a way to combine several of their passions into one, and that’s exactly what Matt Stevens is doing with his viral “Good Movies as Old Books” series.

The founder of a design and illustration studio called The Design Office decided to pass the time in quarantine by reimagining his favorite movies as retro books. What started as a coping mechanism quickly transformed into a viral series that brought thousands of new followers to his Instagram page.

Stevens’ creative process is pretty flexible, and finished versions are often different than his original concept, but he usually starts his creative journey by focusing on a single film. “Inspiration comes at odd times, so I let the thoughts come and go and the actual idea usually comes unexpectedly. Sometimes I see a vintage book and a style that I’d love to try and try and find a film on my running list that seems like a fit,” Stevens told Bored Panda.

Every movie buff will find something they like on his Instagram page. Some will stay in awe after seeing how he envisioned some of their favorite movies, while others will use it to discover new films they’ve never heard of before and add them to their watch list.
