This brand borrows its name from Scottish mythology, where selkies represent mythical creatures of the ocean who can change from seal to human form by shedding their skin. Brand’s founder Kimberley Gordon loved this story as a child and felt that Selkie was the perfect name for her brand because it gave women a chance to transform into their true selves.
Gordon’s love for folklore guided her creative process, and she ended up crafting a series of beautiful dresses that she calls “fanciful, nostalgic, and extra romantic.” Selkie is now best known for its puff dresses, made with tulle and other light and dreamy materials that either come in pastel colors or feature colorful, floral prints.
