5 Props to Take Your Fall Photos to the Next Level

With the leaves changing and the brisk air, fall’s the perfect time to take new photos. One of the best parts is all of the fall things that you can use as inspiration and props. Whether you’re taking couples photos or photos of your kids, use these five props to make your photos more fun.

Pumpkins and Gourds

Pumpkins and gourds scream fall and they’ll put pops of orange, green, and white into your photos. Have each person hold one or write names on the pumpkins.

Apples

Visit an apple orchard and while there take some photos. Bring baskets and apples for some adorable photos. The red, yellow, and green apples will add a nice burst of color to the photos.

Cozy Blankets

Nothing says fall like cozy blankets, especially plaid ones in autumnal colors. Get comfortable and snuggle up to your loved ones or set a blanket up on the ground.

Hand-Knit Accessories

Bring your knit sweaters, scarves, mittens, and hats to your photo session and if they’re handmade, it’s even better. Props if you match them to other people.

Colorful Leaves

Red, green, purple, yellow—leaves come in so many fun colors and they’re a great natural prop that you can find pretty much anywhere. Spread them out, throw them in the air, or hold them in photos.

Get into the Spooky Season Early With These Budget-Friendly Decor Ideas

Summer’s not far from being over and you know what that means? It’s time to start decorating for Halloween! Halloween is one of our favorite holidays to decorate for because the spookier the better! But decking out your home in Halloween decor doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, there are tons of budget-friendly decor hacks and all you need is a bit of creativity. Here are five ideas to get you started!

Creepy Photo Collage

Get your photos from past Halloweens and display them in a creepy collage for everyone to see. Get creative by using filters or converting them to black and white. Once you’ve chosen the photos, print them out at home and buy some cheap frames in tons of styles and sizes.

Spider Wall

Pretty much at any craft store you go to you’ll find spiders, so get them in a variety of sizes and put them all over the wall.

Halloween Wreath

Head to a craft store or dollar store and get supplies to make your own Halloween wreath. Look for themed bows, pumpkins, skulls, spiders, ghosts, and eyeballs to make it more festive.

DIY Jar Lights

Set the mood for Halloween parties or dinner by filling Mason jars with paper crinkles and string lights.

Spooky Signs

Spooky signs can be found at the dollar store and they look much more expensive than they are. Get a variety of them with black cats, witches, skulls, and seasonal sayings, and display them around your home.

Indie Designer Taylor Dorry’s Upcycled Babydoll Dresses are Blowing Up on Social Media

While Hill House’s nap dress was the dress of Summer 2020, Summer 2021 has a new dress that’s in the spotlight. The dress of Summer 2021 comes from Indie designer Taylor Dorry, whose upcycled designs are taking social media by storm.

Unlike the nap dress which is free and flowy, Dorry’s designs are babydoll dresses that are all one-of-a-kind. The dresses, which give off total modern-day princess vibes, are handcrafted from reclaimed upholstery fabrics.

The Hollywood, Florida resident’s creations almost didn’t happen. For many years her attention was on political science, not fashion, but she enjoyed collecting vintage pieces. She ended up relocating to Miami and working as a stylist’s assistant and starting a side hustle. She then enrolled in a fashion design course.

“I was hooked on how special those clothes can make you feel and went from sourcing items for fashion shoots to selling. The pieces that I loved the most made me feel nostalgic in a way that took me back to when I was a little girl trying on my mom’s clothes,” she told Vogue.

In May 2020, she opened up her virtual shop and launched her collection. The designer makes everything herself and she spends lots of time at thrift stores and estate sales looking for the perfect fabrics. Her dresses use lots of fabric—the Sophia babydoll uses almost five yards of vintage fabric and the bell-shaped Lola dress uses 18 feet of fabric within the ruffle hem.

Dorry is set to launch her first capsule collection later this year which will feature one-off upcycled pieces and a line of sustainable and organic clothing. We can’t wait to see what the collection has in store!

Art.is.Therapy’s Architecture Rings Have City Skylines in Them

With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting our travels, you’re probably missing out on visiting your favorite locations. And it may be a while until you feel comfortable traveling to these destinations. If you’re missing these cities, travel-loving designer Art is Therapy has found a way to keep them close to you at all times with their architecture rings.

The rings are crafted out of precious metals including copper, silver, gold, and nickel, and they’re encased in glossy resin. With cities including New York City, Rome, and London, each one has architectural details that reimagine the city’s skylines. The New York one features a tiny Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge and the London one has a London Eye and Big Ben.

“We started from the certainty that anyone who has spent some time traveling knows the feeling of wanting to physically hold on to a favorite place,” Art is Therapy told My Modern Met. “That’s why we translated this feeling into beautiful jewelry in the image of some of the world’s most beloved cities.”

The rings are truly a work of art and if you’re still looking for the perfect gift for your travel-loving friend or family member, these rings are very special.

BONBONWHIMS is the Jewelry Brand Celebrities Can’t Get Enough Of

Have you been seeing chunky, plastic rings everywhere? If yes, you’ve probably come across the brand BONBONWHIMS, which has become a favorite of celebrities and influencers. This collection is not only a celeb-favorite, but it’s also super trendy and it’s guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

“I started making whimsical jewelry for myself as an escape and creative outlet years ago to fulfill this creative space that was lacking in my job,” Clare Ngai, BONBONWHIMS founder, told STYLECASTER. “It was always in the back of my mind to launch, but the pandemic really provided this unprecedented opportunity for me to sit down and turn my dreams into action.”

While the company started off small, it didn’t take long for it to gain a following. Ngai did a lot of organic gifting to small creators and influencers who showed interest in the brand and from there, stylist, buyers, and editors took notice.

The brand is known for its bright colors and fun shapes and stars can’t seem to get enough of the playful designs. Among some of BONBONWHIMS customers are Kylie Jenner, who’s been seen in the Pop Drop Earrings and Custom Pearl Drop Bracelet, and Sofia Richie who was spotted in a stack of the Adjustable Enamel Drip rings and the Ling Bling ring.

And founder Ngai doesn’t take it lightly that celebrities are wearing her pieces. “It’s mind-blowing really. To think of all the emerging and established jewelry brands out there trying to have product placement on someone of that caliber—whether it be organic or monetary—I feel beyond humbled and flattered!”

So, are you going to add these colorful pieces to your collection?

Sou Fujimoto’s Buildings Are Straight Out of a Sci-Fi Movie

If you’re a huge fan of modern architecture due to its innovative and futuristic qualities, it’s time you’ve learned Sou Fujimoto’s name. The Japanese architect is breaking boundaries with each new building he designs, and they all look straight out of a science fiction movie.

Fujimoto studied architecture at the University of Tokyo, before establishing his own firm with offices in Tokyo and Paris. Over the past two decades, he established himself as one of Japan’s leading modern architects and worked everywhere from his hometown to Paris and London.

Fujimoto’s buildings are best known for their white walls, unique way of interacting with the nature that surrounds them, and transparent elements that allow him to play with light. He often draws inspiration from forests and caves. He believes they allow for the “ambiguous interpretation of space and form” and allow him to explore what he calls the “primitive future”.

One of Fujimoto’s most famous works is the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London, known for the involvement of many of the world’s leading architects. He was also in charge of designing many notable modern structures in his home country, including Final Wooden House in Kumamoto and House Before House in Utsunomiya.
