While you probably haven’t heard of the streetwear brand Skoot, if you’re a fan of Billie Eilish, Rosalía, or BTS’s fashion, chances are you’ve seen their pieces before. Skoot was founded in 2016 out of Seoul and the clothing is manga and anime-inspired with graphic prints on everything from sweatpants to sweaters and dresses.
The label started after cofounders Koh V and MLMA met in Seoul a few years ago when Koh found MLMA’s painted canvases. The two then decided to put MLMA’s artwork onto clothing and Skoot debuted. Koh and MLMA also work with the artist problem6oy and they make bold prints inspired by manga, which is what the designers grew up watching.
The collection has custom, one-off pieces as well as ready-made items with many of the pieces being genderless. The designers told Vogue that “clothing shouldn’t have any limits in terms of gender.”
One of their most well-known clients is Billie Eilish, whose style fits in perfectly with the label. Eilish can be seen wearing a printed cardigan and shorts from the collection in her “Therefore I Am” music video and in her performance at the American Music Awards. In addition to Eilish, they’ve also dressed Rico Nasty, MLMA, BTS, Rosalía, Blackpink, Grimes, and rapper Jackson Wang.
