Amirah Kassem is so much more than a professional baker—she’s a creator and entrepreneur who made her dream of owning a bakery a reality when she opened FLOUR SHOP in 2012. So far she’s created viral explosion cakes, colorful product collabs, and an uplifting book collection, but it’s her latest collaboration with VANS that’s caught our eyes.
The 33-year-old baker and designer has partnered with the iconic skateboard brand and made a collection that’s full of color and glitz. The Vans x FLOURSHOP collection is full of bright colors and includes rainbow-emblazoned Sk8-His, glitter backpacks, and cheerful tops that will put a smile on your face.
This isn’t Kassem’s first go at fashion as one year before founding FLOUR SHOP, she moved to NYC to work at Interview Magazine. Before long, she was working alongside designer Johan Lindeberg and launching the denim and leather label BLK DNM.
When she discovered her love for baking, she decided to purse it full time and FLOUR SHOP has two bakery locations, a cookware line with Williams-Sonoma, a home line with Pottery Barn, and more.
The thing she loves most about collaborations is the creative process. “It allows me to put all of my designs and creativity into a new framework. Getting to take the FLOUR SHOP birthday lifestyle and applying it to all my favorite apparel, home decor, kitchenware, and more feels like I’m bringing the birthday joy into your everyday life!”, she told PopSugar.
In regards to VANS, Kassem admits to always being a “VANS girl” and that she has always dreamed of making her own pair. Her inspiration for the collab was “SPRINKLES AND SMILES!” and she wants “everyone wearing the collection to spread joy, feel magical, and have the most fun ever! To be able to walk in my shoes if you will!”, as she revealed to PopSugar.
