There’s no doubt that once summer comes around crochet becomes super popular. Sure, you can buy crochet pieces at Zara, Target, H&M, or any other retailer, but if you’re looking to support artists and want to wear what the stars are wearing, you have to check out Memorial Day.
Founded by Delsy Gouw, who learned to crochet when she was just nine from her mother, she’s now got her very own brand that the biggest celebrities including Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, and Kamala Harris’s stepdaughter Ella Emhoff have been spotted in. She dreams of Harry Styles wearing her designs on day, as she told Vogue.
25-year-old Gouw uses textiles to release her creative energy with her collection, which started off an online vintage store and grew into a crochet brand. Due to being unable to source things during the pandemic, she started crocheting. Her brand features bright, bold colors in items ranging from bucket hats and bikinis to shoulder bags and face masks.
While the designer gets her yarn from Joanns, she wishes to one day be more sustainable and use deadstock yarn. Her next projects include collaborations with The Consistency Project, which will feature a ready-to-wear collection with sustainably sourced yarn, and a bikini line with Tyler McGillivary.
