Karl Lagerfeld went down in history as one of the most iconic designers of his generation, and this year’s Met Gala celebrated his legacy. The theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” proved to be pretty easy to follow, and here’s how stars in attendance managed to embrace it.

Black & White

Lagerfeld swore by a black and white color scheme, and many celebrities at the Met Gala paid homage to his legacy by incorporating this contrast in their red carpet looks.

Channel Bride

The German designer famously closed Chanel shows with bridal gowns, so it’s not a shocker that white gowns took over the Met Gala carpet this year.

Vintage Designs

Vintage dresses from Chanel’s archives were all the rage this year, with multiple celebrities wearing them. We’ve also seen several looks that directly referenced some of Lagerfeld’s iconic designs.

Pearly Gowns

The iconic designer often used pearls in unexpected ways as a way of paying homage to Coco Channel. Many stars celebrated this part of his legacy by hitting the red carpet in pearly dresses.

High Collars

Lagerfeld was a huge fan of sharp, tailored looks with a high collar, and celebrities at the Met Gala came up with creative ways to incorporate them into their outfits.

Tweed Bonanza

Chanel dresses are synonymous with tweed, so it wasn’t a surprise to see many celebrities hit the red carpet in tweed designs.

Direct Tributes

Some of the tributes to Lagerfeld at this year’s Met Gala were anything but subtle, and they included dark sunglasses, platinum blonde hair, and even his name splattered all over numerous outfits.
